Onions

Spring is still far away, but the soul longs for light and freshness. At a time when the days are short and the nights are long, I would especially like spring greenery. Why not start creating spring lessons on your windowsill now? With a green onion, you can easily bring a piece of spring into the dark winter days.

Green onions are a real vitamin bomb. Onions and garlic belong to the same family and, like every other member of the genus, they contain a great deal of essential substances for health. Onions contain vitamins A, C and K and potassium. What makes the onion especially valuable are the taste and aroma compounds it contains, which protect us from all kinds of pathogens. Onions are a good plant not only in terms of healthy substances, but they are also easy to grow.

Large bulbs must be taken to grow green onions. The variety 'Stuttgarten Riesen' is best suited for onions, as the bulbs are large and strong. The choice of growing place must be based on the bulbs receiving at least six to seven hours of sunlight. However, if this is not possible, you can use plant lamps that work wonders with plants. Plant lamps have a color spectrum of light rays suitable for plants, which strengthens the plant stem and promotes photosynthesis. For example, an Airam plant lamp can cover a plant's need for light.

The bulb is not demanding on growing conditions, but wants certain conditions. Onions grow best on fairly moist soil, as they can rot in excessively wet soil. To improve the rooting of the onion, the neck of the onion can be cut to a depth of about 1 cm, then the tops of the onion will grow like a miracle. The optimal temperature for growing onions is about +20 oC and should be watered with warm water. Any soil is suitable for growing soil, but the most suitable is still a special herb or ordinary garden soil. Compo herbs can be a good option. The soil must not be acidic, as acidic soils develop poorly and are more susceptible to diseases and pests. If you ensure all the above conditions for the onion, you can pick the first onions in 1-2 weeks.

Growing onions is a great activity that brings spring to your windowsill in the winter.
